“The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) received information about the robbery at Fortsig Tshwane Electricity depot in Pretoria West on Thursday morning and responded to the scene, where officers found security guards tied up.
The guards reported that armed suspects in three trucks had entered the depot and stolen rolls of electricity cables,” TMPD said.
TMPD officers gave chase and intercepted one of the trucks at the Hartbeespoort turn-off on Van der Hoff Road, where the suspects were arrested. The truck was loaded with rolls of cable, and the suspects were found in possession of illegal firearms.
Officers later learned that another truck had fled towards Soshanguve. That truck was also located, along with six rolls of stolen cable. A white Nissan NP200 used as an escort vehicle was also recovered.
A total of five suspects were arrested. They face charges of armed robbery, theft and possession of illegal firearms.
The third truck is still missing.
TMPD Chief Commissioner Yolanda Faro commended the officers for their brave and swift response.
