Five armed men stormed the Astron Energy fuel station at Saartjiesnek during the early morning hours, smashing the shop’s glass door and holding staff at gunpoint.
According to police spokesperson Captain Majang Skalkie, the five suspects, all wearing balaclavas, threatened the cashier. “They demanded money from the cash register and took an undisclosed amount of cash, as well as cigarettes.”
Three staff members were also robbed of their cellphones.
Officers from Afrique du Sud K9 (ADS K9) Security responded to the scene immediately after receiving a panic call from the fuel station.
“Upon arrival, a thorough search of the surrounding roads and bushes was conducted, but the suspects were not found. It is suspected that a getaway vehicle was waiting for the suspects,” said Xander Burger of ADS K9.
No injuries were reported, and police are continuing their search for the robbers.
