According to Riaan Britz of the Emergency Response Team Harties (ERTH), the fire appears to have started in the garage at around 16:30.
“The husband saw the flames and alerted his wife. They managed to escape the blaze unharmed,” he said.
ERTH members were conducting routine patrols on Van der Hoff Road in the Kameeldrift area at the time when they noticed smoke coming from a smallholding along the road. Upon investigating, they discovered the house engulfed in flames.
“We alerted our fire-fighting team, which responded quickly, and contacted the Tshwane Fire Department for assistance. ERTH firefighters started dousing the flames until Tshwane units arrived,” he said.
Firefighters battled the blaze for more than two hours.
“Through excellent teamwork, the fire was finally suppressed. Unfortunately, the property was totally destroyed,” said Britz.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
