The town won a whopping R1 million investment from Lottoland and R1 million worth of airtime from kykNET.
The funds will be administered by the Proudly Harties organisation, which spearheaded the campaign, and will be used to improve the town.
“This is a historic and proud moment for Hartbeespoort. It is proof of the community spirit, passion and commitment of our residents, businesses and supporters,” said Adri Louw, chairperson of Proudly Harties.
“The investment of R1 million will enable us to improve public spaces and facilities to ensure Hartbeespoort’s continued growth as one of South Africa’s most popular tourist destinations.”
Proudly Harties had to submit a detailed project plan and budget to enter the competition.
The money will be used to address some of the most crucial issues in Hartbeespoort, such as repairing traffic lights, fixing street lights and upgrading the taxi rank, among other projects.
“This incredible achievement belongs to every single person who took the time to vote, share our posts, encourage others, and proudly stand behind our beautiful town. Together, we proved what can be achieved when a community stands united.
“This is a victory for our businesses, our tourism industry, our residents and everyone who calls Harties home.”
Hartbeespoort competed against Gansbaai, Secunda, Hopetown, Mokopane, Kei Mouth, Bethlehem, Howick and Gobabis.
