According to information at the scene, approximately five suspects entered the shop at Sediba Plaza around 12:30, announced an armed robbery, and ordered everyone inside to lie on the floor.
A customer said he only became aware of the robbery when a man with a firearm approached him. “He pointed the gun at me and said he was going to search me for a firearm. He searched me and then ordered everyone to lie on the ground,” he said.
The suspects stole cellphones and other electronic items before fleeing in a waiting vehicle. Police and private security companies responded swiftly, and a police chase ensued.
According to unconfirmed reports, police managed to intercept the vehicle near Johannesburg and forced it to stop. An unknown number of suspects were arrested, and some of the stolen items were recovered.
