According to police spokesperson Captain Majang Skalkie, three armed men forced open the Engen fuel station’s shop door at around 01:00 on Sunday and threatened staff with firearms. The suspects stole an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene.
The incident follows a similar robbery at the Astron Energy fuel station at Saartjiesnek on Friday, when five armed robbers broke open the shop door, held staff at gunpoint and escaped with cash and cigarettes.
Afrique du Sud K9 Security responded to both scenes shortly after receiving panic alerts. “We suspect it might be the same group. During the second robbery, we managed to obtain the number plate of a possible getaway vehicle,” said Xander Burger of Afrique du Sud K9.
Skalkie confirmed that no injuries were reported and that police are continuing their search for the suspects.
