Jeanet Dineo Motau (29), a clerk at Baroka Funerals, which has offices in Brits and surrounding areas, appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on a charge of theft involving approximately R900 000.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana, Motau allegedly replaced clients’ banking details with her own and processed funeral claim payments into her personal bank account between 7 May 2025 and 23 May 2026.
“On 27 May 2026, the chief operations officer and his team were reviewing previous claim documents when they allegedly discovered that certain funeral claims had been paid more than once into a bank account belonging to the accused. The matter was reported to the police on the same day. The following day, the accused handed herself over to the police,” Mahanjana said.
The case was postponed to 5 June 2026 for bail investigations.
