According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sam Tselanyane, police responded after being alerted to the incident and found a man lying next to the road, bleeding and with visible injuries.
“Although he was still alive, the victim was unable to communicate with the police due to the severity of his condition,” he said.
The man died shortly afterwards.
“While at the scene, police heard someone calling for help from nearby bushes and found another seriously injured man. He identified himself and the other victim.”
Emergency services were summoned to the scene. One victim was declared dead while the other was transported to hospital for treatment.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Ryno Naidoo, strongly condemned the alleged vigilante attack, describing it as a blatant disregard for the rule of law that cannot be tolerated.
He warned community members to work with the police and allow the criminal justice system to take its course rather than taking the law into their own hands.
