According to Rocky Mostert of Secra Security, officers were on patrol in the Sediba Plaza area shortly before 03:00 when a security guard from the shopping centre ran after their vehicle and requested assistance with a burglary in progress at the supermarket.
“Although the premises are not a Secra client, our members immediately responded to assist. Upon arrival, the two suspects fled into the nearby dense bush. We pursued them but they got away,” he said.
The suspects had forced open a roller door at the receiving entrance behind the centre using a crowbar and pickaxe.
A substantial amount of stolen goods was recovered at the scene, including cigarettes, meat products and energy drinks.
“Thanks to the quick response of the security officers, the suspects were unable to escape with loot worth thousands of rands,” Mostert said.
Members of the South African Police Service in Hartbeespoort were notified and responded to the scene.
“This incident again highlights the proactive role security companies play in combating crime in our community,” Mostert said.
