The Total fuel station in Hartbeespoort was robbed on Monday, followed by the Sasol fuel station at Silkaatsnek on Tuesday.
In both incidents, three armed men struck during the early morning hours.
According to police spokesperson Captain Majang Skalkie, three men wearing balaclavas and armed with a firearm entered the Total fuel station in Beethoven Road, Hartbeespoort, at about 03:45. They threatened the cashier at gunpoint and robbed the shop of cash, cigarettes and staff members’ cellphones.
“The suspects fled on foot and no arrests have been made. No injuries were reported,” Skalkie said.
At about 02:45 on Tuesday, three suspects, each armed with a firearm, struck the Sasol fuel station at Silkaatsnek.
“The robbers gained access to the fuel station by climbing over the wall from a neighbouring nature reserve. They forced open the shop door and held the staff at gunpoint,” said Chris Degenaar of Afrique du Sud K9 Security.
The robbers stole cash, cigarettes, energy drinks and chocolates before fleeing on foot. An empty cash register and some of the stolen cigarettes were later found near the wall over which the suspects had escaped.
“Upon reviewing camera footage, it was noticed that the cashier unfortunately did not press the panic button while the suspects were still outside and talking to her. It was only pressed after the suspects had fled back over the wall,” Degenaar said.
Brits police responded to the scene. Hartbeespoort News has requested comment from the police and is awaiting their response
