According to the North West Department of Health, the launch forms part of a pilot project that will eventually be rolled out in clinics across the province to improve the coordination and management of medical records.
“Madibeng Clinic has taken a significant step towards modernising healthcare services by becoming the first clinic in the Madibeng Sub-District to launch Electronic Medical Records (EMR),” the department said.
The introduction of EMR marks an important milestone in the Department of Health’s drive to become more digital and paperless, while improving the management, storage and retrieval of patient information.
The system is expected to help address challenges such as missing or misplaced patient files.
“Electronic records will make it easier for authorised healthcare professionals to track, retrieve and manage patient information when needed, ultimately contributing to improved continuity and efficiency of care,” the department said.
The Madibeng Sub-District has welcomed the development and expressed its support for the Department of Health’s move towards ensuring that patient information is securely stored, easily accessible to authorised personnel and efficiently managed.
“For many years, healthcare facilities have experienced challenges with physical files being misplaced or becoming difficult to retrieve. The transition to electronic medical records represents a positive step towards addressing these challenges and creating a more efficient healthcare environment,” the department said.
