Meerhof Oewer closed after flooding

The Meerhof Oewer Resort in Hartbeespoort has temporarily closed after severe flooding caused by the recent heavy rainfall.

The Meerhof Oewer Resort in Hartbeespoort has temporarily closed after severe flooding caused by the recent heavy rainfall.

Large parts of the shoreline around Hartbeespoort Dam remain flooded, despite eight sluice gates having been opened by Thursday.

“We have been trying to bring in material to fill up the roads and grass areas, but the trucks are getting stuck in the mud on the way in. At this stage, there is absolutely nothing we can do except wait,” said Suzette Pretorius, owner of the resort.

“We will reopen as soon as the flooding is under control. In the meantime, we will keep our visitors updated on our social media channels,” she said.
