Alarmed community members spotted a man along Beethoven Road shortly before 11:30 on Monday, pointing a firearm at motorists and members of the public.
The incident was reported on community WhatsApp groups and to security companies.
“Afrique du Sud (ADS) K9 Security received an emergency call about a man pointing a firearm at the public at 11:30. The reaction team responded immediately and found the suspect along Beethoven Road near China Mart,” said Chris Degenaar of ADS K9.

ADS K9 security officers overpowered and disarmed the man. He was arrested, and Hartbeespoort police were alerted.
“The firearm was found to be a 9mm gas pistol. The suspect and the firearm were handed over to the police,” Degenaar said.
