The three men and a woman, all Zimbabwean nationals, were intercepted on the R511 at Meerhof by SDS and Afrique du Sud (ADS) K9 security officers. They are suspected of being linked to railway infrastructure and cable theft in Rustenburg.
Security companies and law enforcement agencies in the Hartbeespoort area were alerted to be on the lookout for suspects travelling in a Suzuki S-Presso on Friday morning.
An SDS Security officer spotted the vehicle heading towards Hartbeespoort on the R511 Hennops Road at a stop-and-go and followed the suspects.
“I alerted Afrique du Sud K9 Security in Hartbeespoort to intercept from the other side,” said Kyle Vosloo of SDS.
ADS K9 officer Xander Burger lay in wait for the suspects at the Xanadu traffic lights on the R511 at Meerhof and stopped the vehicle. Vosloo arrived at the scene moments later, followed by additional ADS K9 backup.
The four suspects were arrested, and Hartbeespoort police were alerted.
“During a search of the suspects and the vehicle, police found a large amount of cash, heavy-duty bolt cutters, industrial work gear and a dead rabbit,” Burger said.
The suspects were taken into police custody for processing and further investigation.
