The fire broke out on the upper level of the house in Karel Street in Schoemansville around 11:00, and rapidly spread to the rest of the house.
The Emergency Response Team Harties (ERTH) responded immediately and was followed shortly by the Madibeng fire department, HEMS fire unit and NECSA fire unit.
According to Riaan Britz of ERTH, the teams worked together to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring homes. “Thankfully, there was no one in the house when the fire started.”

Firefighters fought the fire until late afternoon before it was doused. However, it flared up again during the night, and on Friday morning firefighters had to be called back to the scene.
