Two bodies discovered in shallow grave, man (26) arrested

A 26-year-old man has been arrested following the discovery of two bodies in a shallow grave in a bushy area near Brits.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh, the discovery followed an investigation into two missing persons who had been reported missing at the Hebron Police Station.

“On Tuesday, 2 June, various police units from Brits and Hebron were tasked to assist in the investigation of two missing persons. The team interviewed an individual who was reportedly among the last people to have seen the missing men. Information obtained during the interview led investigators to a person of interest in the Hebron area,” said Myburgh.

During a search of the suspect’s premises, police uncovered evidence that prompted the deployment of the Tshwane K9 Search and Rescue Unit to a nearby bushy area.

“A shallow grave was discovered and two bodies were recovered from the grave.

The suspect, Oridila Mosapa (26) was arrested and charged with double murder. He appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Friday and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Thursday, 11 June 2026.

“Formal identification processes and post mortem examinations will be conducted to assist in confirming the identities of the deceased and determining the cause of death,” Myburgh said.

Police investigations are continuing.
